Statement

My practice explores the intersections of ceramics with sculpture, painting and drawing. I construct ceramic ‘canvases’ with slabs or larger hand coiled sculptural forms with stoneware clay that become the substrate for spraying, brushing, and slip-trailing layers of the ceramic reactive glazes and materials I have developed over the last decade.

The compostions are created by applying the glazes by brushing painted blocks of colour, spraying accents and drawing spontaneous fluid lines using a slip trailer. The work is fired to stoneware temperatures where the materials interact and transform through alchemical processes. These metamorphic changes produce unpredictable outcomes, affecting the surface, colour and texture of the work. I see the final pieces as metaphorical paintings and drawings, inspired by geology and the transformative forces of metamorphism.

I hold a BSc in Geology and an MA in Ceramics from Cardiff Metropolitan University and live and work in Bristol, UK.
